Kingswood College is a prestigious educational institution with a remarkable history of 129 years. It is a boys’ school with about 3500 students which is situated in Kandy, the hill capital of the country. The school is reputed for its astounding environment and the exceptional performance in Rugby. Currently, there are about 200 teachers working in the school. It is quite a large institution withholding a good reputation for education as well as for school sports.
Ewisclassroom was established in the school during the covid-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka to enable the students to continue their education at home. It is a sophisticated learning management system which gives the teachers as well as the students the opportunity to carry on their teaching learning process amidst numerous difficulties which arise in the society.
When the entire world was facing its greatest challenge overcoming the Covid 19 pandemic, a few cases were reported in March 2020 in Sri Lanka. As a precaution, the government announced a lockdown for the whole country, where the schools were one of the first institutions to be closed immediately. Not even half of the first school term has passed, but the students as well as the teachers were asked to stay at home. As an immediate solution for the problematic situation, WhatsApp groups were created for each class and school work was shared through these groups. Only written activities could be shared through these groups and it lacked the reciprocal feedback. Students could neither see nor hear their teachers but had access to only written work. Thus, a need for a better teaching learning platform arose.
The main challenge of using LP+365 was familiarising the students and teachers with the use of new technology. Many of the teachers were not familiar with using the technology for their teaching process as the Sri Lankan education system is based on examinations and direct instructions are used in the process and technology is hardly used. Therefore, a few training sessions had to be carried out for the teachers to be familiar with the LP+365 platform.
There were a lot of issues with signing in to the system, but it was resolved by sharing photos and video tutorials made in their first language. Students too had trouble signing in, but with proper guidance and instructions the problem could be solved.
LP+365 has turned a new leaf in the teaching learning process of the school and has given the opportunity for students and the teachers to access a sophisticated learning management system where they could carry out their studies in a refined manner. School community, including parents and the past pupils are overwhelmed by the initiation of this system as it represents another leap which has been taken by Kingswood College in perfecting the education given to the students. The learners are benefited immensely as they are enabled with a continuous education no matter what happens.
“LP+365 has changed the regular teaching learning process of our school and it has permitted access to an extensive variety of apps and MS Teams is our favourite”
“Ewisclassroom is a platform where the teacher can share the content and activities of his/her lessons in a very state of the art manner”
